National Honor Society

Mission

When the National Honor Society was founded in 1921, the hope was to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. These ideals of scholarship, character, service and leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921. The J. M Tate Chapter has striven to maintain these high standards set at the national level as well as our sister high schools in Escambia County.
The NHS club is a large, diverse, and prestigious organization at Tate. Our members accurately reflect our school's population both academically and in terms of activity. Our club has continually grown over the years confirming the fact that membership in NHS is a valued achievement.
Once inducted into the National Honor Society, members pay $10 yearly dues, commit to at least 12 hours of community service, and attend the monthly meeting held the 1st Thursday of each month. Members must also maintain a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 4.0
